End of April this year. Me and a bunch of Barcelona-based Toastmasters went to attend our Spanish Speech Contest in Marbella – right in the heart of the Costa del Sol. We were half a dozen public speaking fanatics and we shared a fashionable penthouse flat. Attached to the 22 ft window front, overlooking the sunny city and sea, an electric piano!
My buddy Pau Soler has a band. He plays the piano and he is a person who always seeks for action. Right away he sat down and started to play well-known songs: Let is be, Hey Jude, We are the Champions, …. We all joined him and sang the songs that had shaped our lives so much.
One day passed. Siesta time. All gone and asleep. All but Pau and me. We needed some action. I had an idea…
At Toastmasters International we are almost 300,000 members all over the world – from Kota Kinabalu in Sabah to Boise, Idaho. We meet, speak, lead and evaluate in more than 13,500 clubs. Our organization was founded in 1924. But… we have no song!!
How can that be???
Below you can see our first lyrical idea for The Toastmasters Song. Feel free to comment on the lyrics and create musical ideas – ballad-style – for it.
Let’s see how far we can get with this idea!!
Thanks to you! 😉

No one picked me for their teams.
No one cared about my dreams.
Including me.
No one heard what I could feel.
No one touched the great in me.
Including me.
But then I met you…
I spoke up; I faced the fear,
I cried out loud, I moved the crowd.
I could feel the great I could be.
I felt free, I felt me …
Thanks to you!
Now they pick me for their teams.
Now they care about my dreams.
Now they dare to believe in me.
Including me.
Now they see what I can be.
Now they feel the strength in me.
Now they love the one they see.
Including me.
I speak up; I face the fear,
I cry out loud, I move the crowd.
I can feel the great I can be.
I feel free, I feel me, …
One moment in space,
one moment in time,
one moment divine –
I crossed the line.
I speak up; I face the fear,
I cry out loud, I move the crowd.
I can feel the great I can be.
I feel free, I feel me, …
I speak up; I face the fear,
I cry out loud, I move the crowd.
I can feel the great I can be.
I feel free, I feel me …
Thanks to you!
Jeanette
Great but somehow i lack toastmasters where speakers and leaders are made in a more obvious way… will think about it and come back…
